Gender Analysis Guide

A guide to inform and assist in incorporating gender analyses into investment design.

Gender Analysis Guide

The Gender Analysis Guide is intended to assist foundation staff in incorporating gender analyses into investment design by breaking down key aspects and common questions related to gender analysis planning. This guide is not a framework for implementation of a gender analysis, but rather serves as a high-level roadmap of viable options for gender analysis at any phase of the investment cycle.

The guide defines gender analysis, highlighting its importance in investment planning, and offers considerations regarding timeframe and budget when in the planning stage. It also outlines data collection and analysis procedures, illustrating how to leverage findings to inform investment design and implementation through examples. Sample gender analysis questions to be answered by grantees are also provided. This guide was originally created for the Agricultural Development team and uses examples focused on this sector, but the guidance is broadly applicable across sector focus areas.
